Chalk the Walk

Our lovely town has a celebration called Chalk the Walk. Main street is closed and the street is covered with chalk art by a variety of artists. There is also a large work that is created collectively by hundreds of people. My elementary art students have done a square for the last three years. If there was a prize for the fastest completed work during the festival we would win. We meet for two hours the first morning and the kids follow a loose theme and go at it. The process is relaxed and the results are magical. In 2009 we made Wild Things, 2010 was a flower garden and this year we made an Iowa farm.
